The final neat feature of Astro’s Playroom is the Network Speed Run challenge levels. You can do normal platforming challenge levels with Astro or ones focused on each suit to earn the best times. Every level has tons of retro tech to collect and store in the PlayStation Labo. In every level of the game, a little piece of PlayStation’s history is hidden in many nooks and crannies. Whether it’s more recognizable products like the Memory Cards, or historic handheld devices like the PlayStation Portable, they all get stored in the Labo as a form of nostalgic lookback. For example, one level of SSD Speedway gives Astro a mini gun to fight against a swarm of enemies, and one level in GPU Jungle gives Astro a bow for some ranged combat.
Jump onto the left-hand one, right it up, then Beam Glide to the block on the right. At this spot, look at the wall between the red and green level entrys to find a ramp heading to the basement floor of the Plaza, where many different Bots are hanging out. The Astro franchise is built upon the success of the PlayStation brand and became the de facto mascot.
The character is a White Cloak, unlocked by finding all the Symbols in the game, and the struggle against the snow refers to the famous snowstorm finale. After defeating the stone dragon boss and reaching the start of Mt. Motherboard, look to the left to spot two fighters, one victorious over the other. The scene depicts the canon ending of the game, where Kazuya Mishima is victorious over his father Heihachi. About halfway into the level you’ll cross over a DualShock Cable that is then blown by a fan.
It’s coloured blue after the Cross button, more commonly referred to as the X button. This zone’s suit is the Frog Suit, again controlled with the Adaptive Triggers and the SIXAXIS. Memory Meadow is chronologically the first zone in the game, with Artefacts covering the original PlayStation era from 1995 to 2000. The suit in this zone is the Baseball Suit, which you can move around by swiping on the Touch Pad. Astro’s Playroom was announced on June 11, 2020, at the PlayStation 5 reveal event.[5] The game was released on November 12, 2020 to generally favorable reviews from critics.
Although Team Asobi did not formally announce it, the update also added the PS5 Pulse Elite Headset and Pulse Explore Earbuds. Once players obtain these Artifacts, they can display their giant versions in the PlayStation Labo area. Finally, the update also changed Astro’s Playroom boot-up cover art. This isn’t the first time the game has received surprise content years after its release. Astro’s Playroom threw an in-game Astro Bot party to celebrate the latter’s global launch. As the PlayStation pack-in title for the PlayStation 5, Astro’s Playroom is a short and masterful experience.
Checkpoint 3
When you get to the very end of the level, you’ll land on a Sacred Symbols rainbow bridge. Turn around and run to 77ball net of the bridge to see two bots at the title screen of “Bot of War”. This title screen references 2005’s God of War for the PS2, developed by SIE Santa Monica Studio.
Astro’s Playroom Is A Stellar Showpiece For Playstation 5
Puzzle Piece 2/4 – From the next checkpoint, go to the left to find a cave area with this puzzle piece. Puzzle Piece 2/4 – When you reach the area with the monkey bars, you can reach this puzzle piece to the left side of the second one. Artifact 2/3 “Playstation Portable” – After riding the rotating platform, there is a switch on the other side which creates a lily pad platform back to the right.
The First Trophies
The level of detail and fidelity in the haptics is incredible, layering different feelings like attacking enemies and other environmental interactions on top of the feel of the surface you are walking on. It all feels exactly like it should, a tactile experience a game has never given me before. At this point, you should have finished all levels and maybe got some miscellaneous trophies. A lot of these trophies will have you interact with an object in the PlayStation Labo.
