Since Memory Cards were sold separately, many PlayStation 1 games (like Crash Bandicoot) offered a password system that allowed you to return to where you left off with all your progress. Sony would later release a USB adapter to connect PS1 and PS2 Memory Cards to a PlayStation 3, even PS3s that couldn’t play those games. The PlayStation Memory Card acted as an interim between on-board cartridge memory and storing saves on a console’s internal storage (which the PlayStation lacked, outside of the RAM). Holding a whopping 1 MB of storage divided into 15 blocks, these allowed saves to be copied, backed up and shared among friends independent of the games and consoles.
Astro’s Playroom makes the case that the DualSense Controller is the best in all gaming. It perfectly showcases the capabilities of the device in fun and engaging ways. From the moment you boot up the demo, the game takes you through the DualSense. li xi 88 takes you through the vibration, adaptive triggers, touchpad, motion sensor and microphone. As spotted by Twitter user realradec, Astro’s Playroom received an update for February 2025 that added the PS5 Pro as an artifact. In Astro’s Playroom, players can obtain “Artifacts” from a gacha machine that unlocks collectible PlayStation products.
Cooling Springs, for example, goes from a sunny beach environment to icy and snowy areas, everything themed around the “cooling” aspect of the PS5. Altogether it will take about 3-5 hours to complete, with a little more required to land that Platinum. For a “tech demo,” however, it’s an impressive runtime much longer than I expected. One way Astro Bot cleverly sows the seeds of these concepts – which do a remarkable job of consistently tricking my brain into buying into the different topography – is the lobby hallway ahead of each world.

Puzzle Piece 2/4 – After the second red button where you then jump up the two metal sloped platforms, this puzzle piece is in the top left corner of the area before hitting the third red button. You’ll have to jump back to the left to it from the wooden platform on the right. It’s a wonderful celebration of PlayStation’s history but the absolute best moment is the final boss battle which is so perfectly handled we almost died of nostalgia playing it.
Look over the edge of the island to see a blue aura in the clouds. The robots from the VR classic find new footing on the PS5 in Astro’s Playroom from the PS5 reveal event. When you return to the main hub area of Astro’s Playroom, the gigantic PS5 Pro will be displayed next to the base PS5, with a little Astro Bot perched on top. Simply interact with each one, help the bots lift up the rock, and they will be added to your collection. If you get it wrong, then you’ll need to scale the hill again, grab another bunch of bananas, and retry the dance minigame. If you’re successful, you’ll unlock the bot and get the “No Escape!
Each of them can be completed in around a minute or less and there’s a leaderboard to see how you stack up. Without spoiling anything, Astro’s Playroom essentially takes place inside the inner workings of a PS5 console. Each of the four main zones are themed after hardware concepts such as the SSD Speedway and the Cooling Springs. Cooling Springs for example is chocked full of various PS3 models, the PS Sharp Shooter gun, the PSP, Vita, and so on. Luckily, Sony seems intent on reliving their past in more than one way with the launch of the PS5. Puzzle Pieces 4/4 – In the area with the stomping television, use the two clouds by the checkpoint to jump on top of it when it’s on the ground, then jump to the puzzle piece when it’s in the air.

Some franchises and games, such as Gran Turismo, are relegated to references in trophy descriptions, which have not been listed below. Unfortunately, there are no plans for Astro’s Playroom DLC, so there may not be a chance to go Easter egg hunting again. To free this bot, a riddle needs to be solved, hinted at by the clock image on his capsule. To solve this, head to the raised circular platform nearby with two caterpillar-like enemies on top. Defeat them to reveal another ally bot, one that needs to be spun to create a climbable surface to get to the next part.
The movement of the Move Controllers are incredibly similar to 2019’s Beat Saber on PS4 by Beat Games. Beat Saber is one of the premiere games of PS VR, alongside Astro Bot Rescue Mission. In the Labo area is a Bot using a PS1 controller to drive a red car around him.
Then throw the capsule at the blue cloud as shown in the second picture below. Astro’s Playroom was the final game released by Japan Studio before their dissolution in April 2021. Team Asobi was formally spun-off into an independent studio within Sony’s PlayStation Studios in June 2021. A full-length sequel, Astro Bot, was announced on May 30, 2024, and was released for the PlayStation 5 on September 6, 2024. Finally, as much as I adore Astro’s cute nature and attention to detail with its celebration of PlayStation nostalgia, I would have loved a more considered narrative on top of all that. There was once a time when pack-in bundled games were regarded as the very best games available for that new console.
I’ve seen uses like blowing into a mic to get an in-game fan to move since the days of the original Nintendo DS, so it doesn’t necessarily bring anything all that fresh here. This file contains additional information such as Exif metadata which may have been added by the digital camera, scanner, or software program used to create or digitize it. If the file has been modified from its original state, some details such as the timestamp may not fully reflect those of the original file. The timestamp is only as accurate as the clock in the camera, and it may be completely wrong. That being said, the fact that my biggest complaint is just that I really wish there was more, is almost more of a compliment. Astro’s Playroom is an extremely well-designed platformer and getting access to it for free feels like a steal.

Each requires specific actions‚ such as solving riddles or interacting with the environment. While not needed for the Platinum Trophy‚ they add depth and fun‚ celebrating PlayStation history. Completing these unlocks unique achievements and brings you closer to 100% completion‚ making them a great bonus for dedicated players. Boss Fight Trophies in Astro Playroom are unlocked by defeating specific bosses in various levels.
If for some reason you don’t like blowing into your controller’s microphone, just turn it off. When you encounter a windmill in the game, the interaction will start automatically. [edit] Memory Meadow guide is a bit wrong, no point getting the canister with a net in it at the start as you need your hands free to pull out the two cables to walk across first.
Instead of using an infrared light bar, movement was tracked using the soft light ball on top via the PS Eye Camera, and rotation by the internal SIXAXIS. This made it slightly more advanced than a Wiimote, until the Wii MotionPlus released. The PS Move controller later made a comeback as the hand tracking method for the PlayStation VR. The PSP camera was a camera attachment that plugged into the USB Mini port and fitted into the two holes on the top of a PSP. It went by the name “Quick Shot” in Japan and “Go!Cam” in PAL territories. In 2010, a revised model was released alongside Invizimals with a redesigned, wider appearance.
Miscellaneous Trophies in Astro Playroom reward unique actions and challenges‚ such as specific jumps or interactions. These fun‚ creative achievements add variety to your trophy hunt experience. Earning the Platinum Trophy in Astro Playroom requires unlocking all 46 trophies. With no missable achievements‚ it’s achievable in 5-7 hours‚ making it a fun and accessible platinum.
@Froggydarren I have been watching DF reviews for a long time now, and still find their framerate analysis to be a god send as anything much less than locked 60fps makes me feel ill – literally. I always thought they missed a big trick here, and should have had Astro bot (the game) reveal the look of the Pro at the end of the game – via some sort of super power up for the mothership. Stand at the edge of the level and throw the projectile towards it to reveal the location of the bot.
